CHAPTER SIX
June 10th
Dear Diary,
I donât know what happened. One minute things were getting better between me and my sisters and the next they act as if they hate me. Now Iâm starting to feel hate for them too.
Maybe itâs because nobody talks about mama around here anymore. It hurts too much, I guess.
And the stepmother makes me miss her more. All she wants is to tear us apart.
June 7th
Morgan popped out of bed when she realized she almost overslept. It was the last day of school and she had to get her sisters together or she would be forced to drive them. When her feet touched the floor, she rubbed her throbbing temples. Before getting up, she took a second to recall the events from last night. Once second she was drinking hot tea and the next she was out cold. Why was she so tired? Sheâd never been that exhausted before.
After resting for a moment, she grabbed her pink robe off the back of the door and walked into the hallway to get everyone up. âGrace!â she yelled rubbing her head again. âLexia! Are yaâll up? Itâs time to get ready for school.â She would worry about Petra and Shaye later since they were homeschooled.
When no one answered her call, she walked downstairs and was surprised to see Grace and Lexia huddled on the sofa giggling. They were dressed and their hair was in order. Normally Morgan would have to disapprove some of their clothing because what they chose was either dirty or too revealing. But not only were their selections right, they were wearing new gear. âWhy didnât yaâll wake me up?â Morgan asked. âI couldâve helped you get ready for school.â
They stopped giggling amongst themselves when they saw how upset she was. âWe didnât want to wake you,â Lexia said before giggling again. âSo we let you sleep.â
âWhy?â
âRoxanne told us not to bother you,â Grace said. âEspecially after what you did last night. You were certainly in rare form.â
âWhat happened?â Morgan repeated.
âYou were drunk,â Lexia whispered. âYou got into daddyâs scotch. You kept dancing around the house with your t-shirt on asking everybody to look at your stuff. Please donât lie and say you donât remember that shit.â
Morganâs face was flushed with embarrassment. âI didnât ask anybody to look at my stuff.â
âYou did. Roxanne has it on video and everything,â Grace continued.
âBut all I drank was tea.â Lexia and Grace looked at each other in disbelief. Morgan sighed and said, âWhere is she?â through clenched teeth. She was sure that the tea Roxanne gave her was filled with liquor.
âUpstairs with Shaye,â Grace said. âShe hired a new home school teacher who doesnât start until next week. So sheâs helping her with some other assignments.â
âWhat about Petra?â Morgan continued.
âYou know she got mad when she heard about the new teacher. So she in the backyard lighting matches.â
âLook, I know you both probably donât believe me but she put some liquor in my shit. I wouldnât mess with daddyâs stuff.
